Author: Masoma Sakwe 05/04/2024

In today’s rapidly evolving business landscape, digital transformation for organisations has become more than just a strategic plan of action, it’s now a necessity. With the rise of Software as a Service (SAAS), Cloud solutions, and the shift towards hybrid and remote working, organisations are under increasing pressure to adapt and innovate. In this blog we’ll explore the need for Digital Transformations with insights from Intuitive BI CEO Roger Stocker and Financial Controller Jo Hollows, as well as diving into the strategic roadmap outlined in the recent Gartner article authored by Christopher Trueman and Lane Severson, “Strategic Roadmap: What Is the Digital Workplace of 2027 and How Do I Get There?”

Overview of Strategic Roadmap: What Is the Digital Workplace of 2027 and How Do I Get There:

The digital workplace of 2027 is likely to be vastly different from what we know today. Gartner’s research highlights the growing trend of business-led IT, where organisations are repositioning themselves to support improved business outcomes. As working styles shift, driven by remote and hybrid work models, the digital workplace is taking centre stage in enhancing the employee experience and driving operational efficiencies. Christopher Trueman and Lane Severson’s article highlights the following points:

  • Working styles have changed, driven by remote and hybrid work models and increased adoption of cloud office technology.
  • The scope of an organisation’s digital workplace strategy is determined by its long-term goals.
  • The future of the digital workplace involves new technological capabilities and process efficiencies.
  • Engaging critical stakeholders, including business leaders and end-users, is essential for shaping and executing the digital workplace strategy effectively.
  • Designing a compelling employee experience (DEX) involves understanding worker motivations, behaviours, and preferences, and optimising digital interactions accordingly.

The Pressures on Organisations and Employees:

Organisations today are facing a variety of challenges, from economic uncertainty to the push for better work-life balance from employees. With the rise of remote and hybrid work following the Covid-19 pandemic, businesses must innovate the digital employee experience in order to maintain operations, while supporting the work-life balance of their employees. Following major events like Brexit, and the Covid-19 pandemic, many industries within the UK find themselves with a reduced number of staff ( A shortfall of 330,000 workers in the UK since 2020), which has significantly impacted operations, and has been a key driving force behind the need to automate certain processes and find areas for digitisation to make manual business processes more efficient. These challenges have impacted the Print Management industry, where organisations face challenges such as increased lag time between acquiring contracts and implementing solutions, and the need to focus on data-driven efficiencies.

The cost of living crises currently in the UK has placed significant financial strain on employees, with rising expenses and stagnant wages creating a challenging environment. As bills continue to increase and the economy struggles to grow, employees are finding it increasingly difficult to maintain their standard of living. In response, many are seeking remote or hybrid work, to mitigate these financial pressures. Remote or hybrid work options not only offer the flexibility to save on commuting costs but also provide a better work-life balance, allowing employees to allocate more time to personal matters without sacrificing productivity. As businesses navigate these economic challenges, offering remote or hybrid work arrangements has become an attractive proposition to support employees’ financial well-being and enhance overall job satisfaction.

Customer Pain Points:

Customers of our partners are struggling with inefficient business processes and a lack of insight into their data. They need guidance on where to start digitising their operations and help identifying processes that have the biggest impact. This is where solutions like Intuitive’s print management dashboards and document processing software can play a crucial role.

Customers spend millions every year on printing due to manual business processes. Intuitive’s Print and Process Management dashboards can provide insights into work processes and break these down by different departments, helping expose areas that are inefficient, and find areas for digitisation. Data from manual processes that require a lot of printing and scanning such as holiday forms or new hire onboarding can be visualised with Intuitive dashboards. By understanding the impact these processes have on the efficiency of their business, customers can make data driven decisions such as digitising holiday request forms.

Opportunities for Intuitive’s Print Partners:

For Intuitive’s partners in the print sector, there’s a need to see a customers printed documents as not just a means of selling devices or software but as a means of understanding the customers business operations which can lead to more opportunities. It can be easy for our partners to focus on device sales instead on trying to offer solutions to business problems. As Roger Stocker, Intuitive CEO explains “With a push towards hybrid/remote working for many organisations, there’s less printing and scanning happening, meaning less device sales for our partners. By using Intuitive’s Print Management dashboards and the wealth of data available from their customers print activity, partners can focus on understanding a customer’s business processes and leveraging this knowledge to offer tailored solutions that drive efficiencies in various areas of the business and add more value to their customers.“

How Intuitive is Embracing Digital Transformation:

Intuitive has embraced digital transformation by moving most of its solutions to the cloud, offering powerful data analysis through our dashboard solutions, and the ability to find areas for automating processes to improve efficiency. Our cloud solutions enhance data sharing and will eventually allow for cross-customer benchmarking using the data available. Intuitive internally, also use digital tools such as Toggle Track to automate time sheets for the technical team’s R&D projects. Implementing Toggle Track has provided clearer information on the technical teams work activities while removing the need for each member of the team to manually fill out time sheets to upload.

Intuitive CEO Roger Stocker and Financial Controller Jo Hollows, both highlight the importance of hybrid working in fostering collaboration and work-life balance, while also emphasising the need to continue innovating to stay ahead. Hybrid working has become the new norm, striking a balance between remote and in-office collaboration, and allowing organisations to better support their employees lives outside of work. Intuitive has and continues to show great support and flexibility towards its employee’s hybrid work schedule, as Jo Hollows states “Being a mum and having flexibility in my work/life balance is a huge benefit to hybrid working here at Intuitive.”

Although some employees are seeking full control over their work life balance with fully remote work, there are still many who are seeking hybrid roles, as it allows for an improved work – life balance and still provides the benefit of being in the office with your team, “One of the reasons I joined Intuitive, was for the ability to return to hybrid working. I missed the team bonding and the ease of collaboration that came with being in the office, as well as the additional support available for new hires” – explains Jo.

Hybrid working has dropped across the board from spending around 90% of the your time working remotely , and around 10% of your time working in the office to now around a 60-40 model (60% of the time working remote, 40% in the office). We’ve seen this change over the last few years since the pandemic, and Intuitive CEO Roger Stocker, believes the current balance is just right, “I think Hybrid working needs to stay at around 60/40, so employees benefit from an improved work life balance, but also get the benefit of the team bonding aspect of being in the office, and have a greater ability to share their ideas. Some of Intuitive’s best ideas have come from being together either in the office or collaborating at events like our annual company kick off.”

What does Intuitive see for the future:

At Intuitive, we welcome the future of the Digital Workplace, after all, we’re all about providing solutions that enable areas for digitisation to be discovered. Jo Hollows shares her thought on workplace digitisation, “In the next five to ten years, there’s no need to limit digitisation within the workplace, as it’s there to help make life easier for employees not replace them. Automating work processes takes the manual transactional tasks away from employees and gives them more time to be creative and focus on the work that really adds value to their business.”

Looking to the future, Intuitive is diversifying its cloud solutions, offering new products like Intuitive for DocuWare Dashboards for automated document processes (Click to read more about Intuitive for DocuWare). By leveraging cloud solutions and data analytics, Intuitive aims to better understand customers and enhance customer success initiatives for ourselves and our partners. We’re always trying to find ways to add more value to our partners and their end customers by emphasising the need to try and understand customer business processes from the wealth of information available in their print data.

In conclusion, the digital workplace is rapidly evolving, and organisations must adapt to stay competitive. With the right strategies and solutions in place, businesses can navigate the complexities of digital transformation and thrive in the digital age. Intuitive is committed to supporting its partners and their customers on this journey, offering innovative solutions that drive efficiency, productivity, and success.
